Caramel Apple Oatmeal Cookie Magic Bars

Magic bars are always decadent, but this caramel apple oatmeal version is perfect for any Fall enthusiast! The pretzels add a crunch and the flake salt breaks up the sweetness. They are delicious and super gooey. Scroll down for the recipe!

Ingredients

2 1/4 cups quick cooking oats

1/2 cup salted butter, melted (*If unsalted, add 1/8 tsp salt to mix)

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1 can (14 ounce) sweetened condensed milk

1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

1 1/2 cups sweetened or unsweetened coconut flakes

1 green apple, peeled and sliced into cubes

1 cup pretzel sticks

8 sliced caramels, halved

Flake salt

Directions

Preheat oven to 350° F and line a 9×13 inch baking dish with parchment paper.

In a bowl combine oats, melted butter, and vanilla (add 1/8 tsp salt only if using unsalted butter). Press the mix into the prepared baking dish. Gently pour 1/2 the condensed milk over the oats in an even layer. Sprinkle the coconut flakes over the condensed milk, then sprinkle 1 cup of chocolate chips. Layer broken pretzels and carmel pieces.

Peel your apple and cut into 1" cubes. Place the apple pieces in a paper towel and press dry. This is important! If the apples have too much moisture it will make the bars soggy. Add the layer of apples and gently press down with your hands to stick everything together. Top with remaining 1/2 can of condensed milk and sprinkle with a few more chocolate chips. Save remaining chips for after baking.

Bake the bars for 30 minutes until bubbly and golden brown on the edges. Sprinkle with remaining 1/2 cup chocolate chips. Sprinkle with flaky sea salt (if desired). Let cool before slicing. Refrigerate.

Tips: Magic bars are very decadent so I recommend using semi-sweet chips instead of milk. The sweetened condensed milk will add all the sweetness you need.
