Valentine Sugar Cookies

Valentine Sugar Cookies

Makes: 24 (3”) Cookies

Ingredients

1 cup granulated sugar

3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

2 eggs, room temperature

1/2 tsp. Vanilla extract

2 1/2 cups All-Purpose flour

1 tsp, baking powder

1/2 tsp. Salt

Pink food coloring

2” and 1” Heart cookie cutters (or similar)

Directions

  1. Beat sugar and softened butter in a large bowl with an electric mixer until smooth.

  2. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Stir in flour, baking powder, and salt. Divide dough in half (or as desired) and using plastic gloves or a ziplock bag massage pink food coloring into half of the dough.

  3. Cover both dough balls with plastic wrap or parchment paper and gently flatten them out with a rolling pin so you have two discs of dough. Chill dough for at least 2 hours.

  4. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Lightly dust your work surface with flour. Roll out dough discs to 1/4 to 1/2 inch thickness and cut heart shapes out of both colors. Do not roll up the scraps.

  5. Place cookie dough hearts into opposite colored dough to create multicolored heart dough. Gently roll out the dough ever so slightly one more time so the hearts blend into the dough. Use a 3” round cookie cutter or any shape to cut your cookies. Place cookies one inch apart on a parchment lined baking sheet and refrigerate baking sheets for 30 minutes.

  6. Bake for 8 minutes until lightly browned. Cool on wire racks and enjoy!
