This spooky spider is really just a delicious cheese ball covered in chia seeds!

Ingredients

  • 16 ounces regular cream cheese, room temperature
  • 2 cups freshly grated sharp cheddar cheese (NO pre-shredded cheese)
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Frank's Hot Sauce (or similar)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Pinch of black pepper
  • 1 cup black chia seeds
  • 16 small pretzel sticks
  • Candy Googly eyes
  • Crackers, raw veggies, or bread to serve
  • *TIP: If making year-round you can can skip the chia seeds and roll the cheese ball in chopped pecans.

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix together freshly shredded cheese (I used a mixture of orange and white sharp cheddar in the picture), green onions, Worcestershire sauce, Hot sauce, garlic powder, dried oregano, and black pepper. Mix well.
  2. Pour approximately one cup of chia seeds into a small bowl and set aside.
  3. Lay out a large piece of plastic wrap and put 80 percent of your mixture in the middle of the plastic wrap. Shape into a large ball "the body". You can also do this by hand. Make a smaller ball "the head" and 8 tiny balls "the knees" with the remaining amount of mixture.
  4. Have your platter ready to go so you can assemble the spider directly on the platter as it's difficult to move later on.
  5. Roll all your spider parts in the chia seeds, using your hands to continue to shape the body. Place the body and head in the center of your platter. Break 4 mini pretzel sticks in half and leave 8 pretzel sticks whole. Press a broken piece of pretzel into the body of the spider, then attach a "knee" and then your full length pretzel stick goes from the "knee" to the platter as seen in the picture. Continue with the rest of the legs. Attach your eyes with a dab of cream cheese.
  6. I used edible candy googly eyes on my spider, but you could also use black or green olives. Refrigerate and allow to sit at room temperature for 30 minutes before serving. Serve with crackers, raw veggies, or bread.
