The story of Feta
This is the story of how my best friend, gangster sidekick, and IG modeling partner came into our life.
If you haven't been following my blog, we found this bunny in our yard right before Easter. He was hoping around and going from yard to yard. After an hour, my assistant, myself, and two guys working finally trapped him in the the corner of the yard and brought him inside. The neighbors put up flyers and we called the local shelter. He was obviously someone's pet rabbit so I searched the lost and found on Craigslist and also looked up the local Facebook pages in our community to see if anyone was missing a white rabbit. Well as time went by no one claimed him so naturally we adopted him and named him Feta. It was a toss up between Feta and Burrata, but Feta had some good nicknames like Fetty wrap, Feds, and Feta Meister so we ultimately decided on Feta. We like cheese .... what can I say? We fell in love with Feta and he became part of our family.
And then it happened.
Feta's real owner texted me and said the bunny was his. After almost two months someone came forward and claimed him. To say I was devastated would be a complete understatement. I literally started dying on the inside thinking what the heck am I going to tell the kids!? I mean there is a note that says "keep Feta" on our vision board and everything on our vision board comes true!
Feta is house trained and potty trained. He only eats fresh vegetables and he likes to be held and snuggled all day long which isn't really typical of most bunnies. He never eats any cords and he loves dogs and goes on walks with us. It's safe to say he is literally the best rabbit to have ever existed.
Well when the guy texted me to say it was his bunny, he said he saw the flyer and his name was Tom. I of course immediately thought he was a liar, serial killer, creepy bunny stealer, rabbit hunter, rabbit eater, or freak rabbit pervert. Ya know - the usual thoughts that go through your mind. I mean we put up the flyer almost two months ago. It had rained multiple times and there was just no way he could have just seen is now so maybe he didn't want him at all and but he all of a sudden felt guilty. So many things went through my head. Like what kind of name is Tom? Why did he text and not call? Why didn't he call the bunny by his name? I called all my friends and my Aunt and we did what women do best, over-think things. I was literally at one point strategizing what I should I tell him - maybe I gave the bunny away and he was living in another state now or maybe probe him for awhile to see how much he actually loved the bunny. Like if he loved him more than me fine, but if not then screw him. I mean after all I had been taking care of him for the last two months. Well after hours of overthinking everything I texted him back and was just completely honest. I told him I had taken good care of him and he had been to the vet and he was healthy and happy and we loved him and my kids loved him and they will be very sad without him, but we understand he belongs to someone else and he can come over and get him.
And wouldn't you know it, Tom wasn't a creepy bunny stealer. He said that he didn't want to take him after all because it was clear how much we loved him and that it was meant to be. He told me Feta was a lost bunny before and a little girl had found him and given the bunny to him a year and a half ago. He said it all comes around and if it's cool he'll bring him some fresh veggies once in a while because believe it or not he lives in the house right behind me. He said take care of "Jaws" for me. And with that I started crying.
Long story short, it's better to be honest from the get go and what you put out is what you get back so be a good person. Xx
