Quick Cheese Danishes

Qty: 16 Heart Danishes

Ingredients (Filling)

1 package puff pastry, thawed (2 sheets)

8 ounces cream cheese, room temp.

1 large egg yolk

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon fresh lemon juice

Topping

1/4 cup granulated sugar

Raspberry or strawberry preserves

1 large egg for egg wash

Honey for drizzling

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 400℉.

  2. In a large mixing bowl, mix together 8 ounces cream cheese, 1 egg yolk, ½ teaspoon vanilla extract, and 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice with a handheld mixer on medium speed until the mixture is smooth and creamy.

  3. Unroll the puff pastry and roll both short sides into each other until they touch. Slice into 8 pieces. They should look like little hearts. With the back of a glass press down the puff pastry pieces until they look like a flattened heart and use a spoon to press down inside the heart shape like pictures above.

  4. Spread cream cheese filling into the center of the heart puff pastries. If you are adding preserves to the cheese danish, add to the top of the cream cheese mixture at this time. Brush the edges with the egg wash and sprinkle the entire danish with granulated sugar.

  5. Bake for 16-20 minutes until golden brown. Drizzle with honey or dust with powdered sugar and enjoy.
